Ogdensburg Waterfront

Ogdensburg has 330 acres of brownfield sites along the waterfront in need of redevelopment or in the process of redevelopment. This section of the website identifies the key areas and updates users on planning initiatives associated with these sites. As progress is made, additional information will be provided to help inform potential users, developers and adjacent owners of future opportunities.

The City has identified the following goals for the revitalization and redevelopment for these waterfront brownfields:

In preparing for the redevelopment of the waterfront, the city has carried out various planning efforts and is currently in the process of completing a Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Step 2. Through this process, the city has engaged numerous stakeholders in helping to shape a vision that will be compatible with city aspirations.  The following goals were established to help guide this process:

  • Provide for a mix of land uses to ensure that working waterfronts, water-dependent and public access uses remain a viable and stable part of the waterfront.
  • Take advantage of compact community design to optimize waterfront and water-based activities.
  • Provide a range of housing opportunities and choices to meet the needs of both seasonal and permanent residents.
  • Create walkable waterfronts and shoreline communities with visual and physical access to and along the waterfront for public use.
  • Foster distinctive, attractive communities with a strong sense of place while protecting, preserving, and enhancing the heritage of the built and natural coastal community.
  • Preserve open space, natural beauty, and coastal features to protect ecological systems and services.
  • Provide a variety of transportation choices.
  • Make development decisions predicable, fair, and cost-effective through consistent policies and coordinated permitting processes.
  • Promote community stakeholder collaboration in development decisions to ensure benefits for local residents and the public trust legacy of coastal waters.

The following four areas represent significant opportunities for redevelopment and revitalization along the waterfront. Information will be added regarding individual development opportunities, infrastructure development, and amenities as progress is made. Please continue to check this site for updates.
